Former United States Senator Al D'Amato served an illustrious 18 years in the United States Senate. His career was marked by the numerous causes he fought for. Senator Al D’Amato served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs where he helped the family members of Holocaust victims recoup over a billion dollars that had previously been stuck in Swiss Banks.

Many of the victims of the Holocaust had deposited their life savings in Swiss Banks before World War II began and that money had remained there, inaccessible to the survivors and inheritors; until Al D’Amato arrived. With Al D’Amato at the helm the Swiss Banks were ordered to pay over $1 billion in compensation.

Thanks to his landmark work on the case above, Al D’Amato’s post-political career has involved an appointment by the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York as Special Master in similar Holocaust cases in other European nations, Germany and Austria.
